Democrats attacked thousands of African-American schoolchildren in Birmingham, Alabama

Birmiingham_children

On this day in 1963, police in Birmingham, Alabama -- under the command of the Democrat sheriff, Eugene "Bull" Connor -- attacked several thousand African-American schoolchildren who were demonstrating peacefully for their civil rights.  At the time, it should be noted, Connor was the Democratic National  Committeeman for Alabama.  Connor's men used high-pressure hoses, clubs and dogs in their assault, and then jailed nearly a thousand children.

A member of the Ku Klux Klan, Connor had been a Democrat state legislator and a delegate to the 1948 Democratic National Convention.  A year after attacking the African-American children, Connor was elected, as a Democrat, president of the state Public Service Commission.

Bull Connor, Democrat.

Hmmm, I dunno Kathryn. I was at the last GOP convention in N.O. in 1988. The two most enduring adjectives: Hot & Moist.

If you don't read Charles Krauthammer evey day you're missing out.

We're Not in Philly Anymore
Jeremiah Wright is now disowned, and Barack Obama is forever discredited.

By Charles Krauthammer

“I can no more disown him (Jeremiah Wright) than I can disown my white grandmother.”

— Barack Obama, Philadelphia, March 18

Guess it’s time to disown Granny, if Obama’s famous Philadelphia “race” speech is to be believed. Of course, the speech was not just believed. It was hailed, celebrated, canonized as the greatest pronouncement on race in America since Lincoln at Cooper Union. A New York Times columnist said it “should be required reading in classrooms across the country.” College seniors and first-graders, suggested the excitable Chris Matthews.

Apparently there’s been a curriculum change. On Tuesday, the good senator begged to extend and revise his previous remarks on race. Moral equivalence between Grandma and Wright is now, as the Nixon administration used to say, inoperative. Poor Geraldine Ferraro, thrice lashed by Obama in Philadelphia as the white equivalent of Wright’s raving racism, is now off the hook.
